Every child needs education that will enable them to survive and succeed in a rapidly changing world. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the drop-out rate in high schools of India was 17.9 while 39.4 percent of the adolescent girls in the age group of 15-18 years were are not attending any educational institution. The pandemic has affected learning levels adversely, increased equity gaps and with family budgets getting squeezed, it might also result in higher dropout rates. Investing in education, especially girls’ education, to ensure they complete secondary school can potentially yield an average rate of return of around 10 percent in low- and middle- income countries.

With a belief in holistic education and 21st century skills, CKD addresses gaps in education systems with innovative, sustainable, low-cost, scalable interventions that prepare our children for the unknown, unseen and unpredictable. We bring together the best minds and organisations to design equitable localised solutions that respond to global requirements.

Jigyasa

Leveraging Digital Design Technology for Education

Jigyasa is CKD’s educational initiative in partnership with Vodafone IDEA CSR. The project enhances the digital competency of teachers and teacher educators and provides culturally appropriate gamified content. Digital skills and technology have enriched the learning processes and outcomes of students across 5 states. So far, the project has successfully reached out to 2226 schools, 17,560 teachers and 2,14,000 students, with 9179 teachers using digital teaching-learning material and 2744 digital learning material created so far.

Odisha Girls Incentive Programme: Delivery of a School Incentive Programme for Disadvantaged Girls

Odisha Girls Incentive Programme (OGIP), funded by DFID, successfully escalated secondary school enrolment, attendance and completion rates of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in Odisha through a direct transfer of scholarship, organising learning hubs and safe transport. The programme implemented across all 30 districts of Odisha covered two cohorts of socially discriminated and tribal girls studying in high school.

Teachers Training Programs

Design and Delivery of Professional Development Programs

In collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Meghalaya, the project created an enabling environment for inclusive growth of teachers and students by improving the quality and delivery of the State’s secondary and higher secondary education system. It enhanced the employability of youth through exposure to skill development programs.
